  • About me
cleansing is important as many korean believe, they even doing double cleansing. and i believe it. and i do love shopping for cleansing foam since there are so many varieties of them out there.. and i like to try something new. i don't think there's such a holy grail for cleansing foam, since the only important property of cleansing foam is cleansing well. without drying is another good thing from a foam. but i'm not picky.. as long it's labelled with "for oily skin" or "pore cleansing", then i'm sold.

this time i'm trying an old time goodies from skinfood. i don't know that they're expanding the original egg white line, and there are 3 different kind of egg white foams. one is meringue, one is pore foam, and the other is hard foam.
the difference between meringue, pore and hard foam

well, i think i pick the right type then since i'm oily combination so this foam is suitable for me.

the packaging: it's exactly like pictured above. a white plastic tube with pale yellow flip top. i like how korean brands always seal the opening with aluminium foil.

the smell: i don't pick any scent, but i think it's has subtle scent, like citrus scent.

the product: it's a white foam. it doesn't form much bubbles. quite disappointing for bubble lover.

the result: i think this one cleanses dirt and makeup residue completely. also the sebum. i can feel my face squeaky clean. in comparison, more than the face shop charcoal foam, slightly more than etude house baking powder pore and bb cleansing foam. if you're concern about stripping your natural oil, then you can do a moisture test. but since i don't have the kit, i can't say for sure. all i know, after my husband used it, his skin became a little bit flaky. but since he didn't exfoliate and moisturize properly, i don't know if it's because of that of this foam is really drying.

overall, this is a nice cleanser, but i'm not sure of using it on a long time since i worry it might strip my natural face oil. so far it hasn't caused me breakouts, so it means it cleanses well. but if you asked me, so far i like the etude one best. either the bb cleansing foam or the pore one. i think i leave it to you.. fyi, this one is considered best selling items from skinfood, either in korea or globally.

as i wrote in my previous post, i've mentioned about peeling gel vs scrub. well, probably before moving on to that, we should discuss about exfoliation first since both peeling gel and scrub are used for exfoliation. as you all know i'm keen toward korean skincare, and most of them distress the importance of pore care as well as exfoliation. you have to get rid of dead skin cells to make your skin looks bright and radiant. if you have acne or blemish, you have to exfoliate as well, but in moderation. oily skin and combination skin also have to exfoliate, but in moderation as well so that it won't triggers oil and sebum production even more.

for those who are in their 20s or 30s, it's best to start exfoliating now. you can use peel that contains lactic or glycolic acid to reduce pore size and smooth out textural issue. usually, exfoliation is done 1-3 times a week according to your skin type. those with blemished skin should exfoliate once a week. people with oily or combination skin can exfoliate up to 3 times a week.

okay.. now let's talk about peeling gel and scrub. basically, both products are used for exfoliation, so which one is best for you?

SCRUB:
scrub is a mechanical exfoliation to rub the dead skin cells off your skin. you can say it has microdermabrasion effect. usually, scrub has gritty texture since it's mechanical. the recommendation for scrub is once a week. if you have sensitive and looking for glow, then use scrub.

PEELING GEL:
this one acts as exfoliant thanks to its chemical molecule, usually acid. it provokes chemical reaction to shed dull skin. the product's usually watery, and has gel-like consistency. it acts more precisely, less irritating and produce more favourable result with fewer problems. this one is recommended for blemished skin. those who want to fight the signs of aging also can use peeling gel as well.

okay.. now you know you have to exfoliate. using scrub or peeling gel, it's up to your skin type and your preference. so for better skin, let's exfoliate!
i've bought this sample a looooonnngggg time ago, but i forgot it. since i use my facial scrub regularly, i forgot to try this peeling jelly. well, basically this one is a peeling gel, but somehow innisfree makes it cuter by labelling it "peeling jelly softner".

somehow i can't find the description nor the product on their website, either from the innisfreeworld or from global korea website. i don't know if this means they're not selling this anymore or this product only limited for korean market only? oh well, i found this description from jolse.com:
smoothing and clarifying treatment gently yet effectively sloughs off dead skin cells for smoothness and softness with improved vitality. used after cleansing, jelly softener exfoliates and drenches skin with generous antioxidants, prepping it to easily accept the hydrating ingredients from succeeding products. after cleansing, dampen cotton pad with jelly softener and sweep pad all over face. rinse face well to remove the dead skin cells that will begin to ball up on the surface. this hypoallergenic hydrating peeling softener creates a clear and smooth jelly-like skin. exfoliates dead skin cells and provides moisture with wine.

the packaging: the full size version looks like a wine bottle. but the sachet looks exactly like the label on the full size version. compared to other sample sachets, this one is definitely bigger, but i'm not sure if it has more amount of product inside.

the smell: well, i'm not sure how wine will smell like, but i think this one smells like grape juice, not wine. sweet.. but very subtle. you can't smell it once you use it on your face.

the product: it's a whitish liquid, slightly more to gel, but still runny. according to the direction, i supposed to use it with cotton pad, but since i only have one sample, i don't want to waste any product on cotton pad, so i just use my hands. since i don't have any experience with peeling gel, i'm afraid my skin won't like it, so at first i only use a little, but it's too little since i can't even photograph the dead slough skin after using it. second time, i use it liberally on dry skin (yes.. you have to use it on DRY skin), and it works! actually, some bloggers mention that some brands make bogus peeling gel. the way to test it is by using it on countertop or table. but since i only have one sachet, i don't have the chance to try it on my countertop or table. i use it on my husband instead.. he needs it more than the sake of proving it real or not. if you happen to have this one in hand, then you can test it and let me know.

the result: yes, it makes my skin smoother and softer. on my husband, it also gives the same result. bonus, i can see his skin clearer and brighter. probably because he never exfoliates in ages, so dead skin cells on his face make his face look darker. after all, on me or him, it doesn't cause any breakouts or other reaction. it's really gentle.

well, as for the first trying peeling gel experience, this one gives good result. it does slough off dead skin cells, and gives smooth and soft skin as promised. really gentle. but since i haven't tested the genuity of this product, you might want to try the sample to test it before jumping to buy the full product. if you're happen to have concern about "halal" products, then i have no saying since this one clearly stated "wine" in its name. i suppose it has wine in its ingredients. so better stay away from this one. overall, i might try another product that has been tested by another blogger before deciding. if you are curious about the difference between peeling gel and scrub, i will write something about it soon and i will link it here. until then.. keep taking care of yourself!

dead skin cells sloughs off (yucks..)
when this episode was aired, in korea they're celebrating parents day. very interesting that they're celebrating both parents day at the same time. it's time for son/daughter to express their gratitude to their parents. i think it's a good celebration. it taught us to be grateful and taking care of our parents. something that usually western culture doesn't do. okay.. let's get back to the show.

in this episode, moms are the concern. there are two makeup demonstration. the first one is to give a mom a nice makeover for reunion. there are couple tips here, probably you can use this for your mom. the first one is to apply base makeup up in circular motion with stipple brush. use orange or light brown to neutralize the blue hue on brows (most moms give themselves brows tattoo long time ago, and it became bluish). and the last one, consider lilac pink or purplish hue for lips (most moms use reddish hue for their lips).

the other makeup demonstration is called well aging makeup. the makeup artist suggests using moisturizing cream only for skincare and then use powder on T-zone. quite interesting since usually we use powder at the end of base makeup or even after finishing makeup to set it. the purpose of using the powder first is to absorbs the face oil so use the powder lightly. after that, use cushion foundation and then twin cake on discoloured or blemish area to conceal it. the other problem for moms makeup is they use too much lipstick. one way to tackle it is using lip tattoo. you apply a bit on your lips and wait for some time before peeling it. and then you will have a nice stain on your lips that won't budge. transfer proof. i have to admit i haven't found the product just yet.. if you happen to know it, please let me know. oops.. i recently found it by accident.there are two korean brands that i found, berrisom and monomola. but i think the berrisom one is more popular.

meanwhile, if you want to watch the full episode, you can see it here:

i have to say.. i like this episode... since it's talking about hair trend. yeyyy.. although i like makeup, but i have difficulty about hair. i have very very thick hair that's hard to handle. lately it went under smoothing treatment and it made my hair became silky. now.. that part has grown and it became hard to manage again. moreover, since having my daughter, i've been experiencing the worst hair loss ever. i never had hair loss this bad. any suggestion?

anyway.. the hair trend for 2015 is normcore. it's basically a wavy hair but looks natural.. not perfectly curl with curling wand. the hair stylist on the show showed many tips to do that. in order to achieve the effortless wavy hair, first you have to blow dry your hair. first thing first, you have to dry your scalp first by blow dry from your nape to the back of your ear. bottom up, he said. and i tried that one last weekend. and it's true. even though you're drying from your nape and the back of your ear, but the hot air travels upward and it help dries the hair quicker.

he recommends curling using roller. not curling wand. either hot roller or regular roll. and he suggests curling it vertically since horizontally can leave marks on your hair. if you have bangs, then curl toward you face, if you don't then do the other way. clip it and dry it. now, there are a lot of brushes. there's pinroll that helps give volume and there's boar to help straighten the hair. you can also use boar to give volume, but with a little trick. after finish hair drying, now it's time to decide the hair parting. if you just want natural look, you can do 5:5 parting, which is the middle parting. but if you want sexy look, then aim for 1:9 parting or deep parting.

i truly want to try his tricks.. but i have no rollers and washing my hair and letting it dry naturally is a luxurious now... i wish i have time to do my hair. oh bother.. i never have time to let my hair down anyway.. but if you want to do that and want to watch the video, you can watch it here:

this is another lipstick that i bought from my beauty story. i decided to buy rose instead of samantha since i'm worried samantha might be too pale on me. you can see the complete lip swatches on thelipstickmafiaaa instagram (click here). i bet you will get hard time deciding after seeing her swatches.

this is the description from their website: makeup, simplified. beauty story sweet & chic lipstick creamy, pigment-rich lip colour that look great on any skin tone. provides full coverage with a lightweight feel for unfailingly pretty looks, day or night. enriched with vitamin E increasing wearability for 24/7 and keep true color intact. there's rich, there's obscenely rich and then there's our beauty story sweet & chic lipstick. formulated with lip-conditioning hydrators, it treats while it enhances lips. available in carefully curated, beautiful shades.
all shades from this line
the packaging: it's a grey plastic tube with flowers imprinted on the body. cute but sadly doesn't feel sturdy. even when i twist the tube i can feel that the tube is fragile. and sadly.. i got my rose lipstick broken when i twist it all the way down.

the smell: all i can say it doesn't smell waxy or any foul smell.. but i might be wrong since my smelling sensor is bad.

the color payoff: one swipe is enough, and it's good for lipstick with this cheap price tag. although there's no description about the color in the web, i can say that rose is reddish coral. slightly on the red side rather than the orange side. (if you want more orange you can try zinnia, and if you want more red, true red, probably you can try ayanna. lily is bright fuschia pink and linea is blue based red)

the lasting power: average 3 hours on my lips, but it will vanish with eating and drinking. i haven't noticed about the stain, but i will pay attention about it next time i wear this lipstick again.

the formula: somehow this one is creamier than azalea. if azalea dries out to matte on me, somehow rose is semi-matte. it does reflect a bit of light on my pictures. very weird indeed. i don't know if this is inconsistency or it depends on the wearer.

well, i can say i don't regret buying rose. though i'm afraid it will look similar to my maybelline coral crush, but turn out it doesn't. it's a good coral shade perfect for summer or hot days like these. it's a bright color that helps brighten your gloomy day. i think it will perfect for all skin tone, but for pale skin, if you don't like bright lips, then try the lighter color like samantha or calanthe.

i do love watching this series, but when i re-watch it, somehow i found out that i don't quite like this episode. not so many tips or products that i'm interested in. but i'll try to review what i like from this episode.

the theme from this episode is fake beauty. so apparently, lately covering up your freckles is not the trend. in fact, people are faking sunburn and freckles to look fresh and cute. so the important step in the makeup demonstration is faking the sunburn by using blushes on "butterfly zone". butterfly zone is on your cheek extending to your nose. if only the makeup artist knew medicine, then she'll be cursed by doctors, since malar rash is similar to her "butterfly zone" blush. and malar rash is one of the signs from lupus disease. okay.. back to makeup demonstration. after faking the blush, then you draw the fake freckles using several items.

the other tip from the makeup artist is about concealer. there are two types of brushes to use concealer. the flat tip brush is for detailed area, like undereyes. and the sharp brushes for spot concealing like for moles or blemishes.

and there's world beauty trend. this time is from england. apparently, when this episode is aired, cinderella is premiering. and the popular items is correlated with cinderella. can you guess what it is? if you guessed corset, then you're right. but not the underwear corset. we're talking about fashion corset that you can wear outside your clothes.
