if you've been reading my blogs, last year (or maybe almost two years now) i bought several freeman beauty mask in travel sizes. i decided to try as many as i could before deciding which one to buy in full size. but apparently, freeman decided to reformulate their line, and most of the masks that i've tried are either gone or renewed. and i couldn't get the newer version travel size mask. so i decided to take a plunge. i wanted to have one exfoliating mask, one mud mask and one basic clay mask. i got the pink himalayan, the charcoal mud mask and the dead sea mineral which i have tried before. i asked my sister to get it for me so when i went to singapore for christmas, i could bring it home. and i didn't want to waste my time, i also got another two mask sets, and both of them has mud mask in them, so i wanted to make another mask battle. so stay tune for that. for now, let's try the mud mask.
the scent: usually freeman mask has some scent, different from each type. but for this one, i couldn't say what type of scent it is. it's nothing distinctive, but it's definitely scented, there's perfume listed in the ingredients list, three from the bottom.
the result: i do feel it gets tighten up when it gets dried up. it washes off just as hard as the other clay masks, and as messy too. especially since it's dark grey, it's dripping black water on my sink when i wash it off. but after i wash it off, i could feel that this mud mask is not as drying as usual clay mask. i can feel my skin is detoxified and more brightened. but.. i had acne one day, and usually i will spot treat that acne with clay mask and the next day the acne will shrink. so i did. i spot treat that acne with this mud mask, and the next day i could see that it soothes the acne, but it doesn't shrink much. so i use the clay mask next and it shrinks completely. i would say that it doesn't work that well in sucking out impurities.
this is the description from freeman website: this velvety mud mask works its magic to moisturize, remineralize, and make skin sensationally soft! activated charcoal helps lift away oil and toxins while black sugar helps hydrate skin and smooth away roughness. perfect for normal to combination skin.
key benefits: instantly removes impurities and nourishes for renewed skin. activated charcoal and black sugar exfoliate, clear pores and deliver deep moisturization for smoother skin.
the packaging: all freeman masks come in colorful plastic tube with flip top. it's color coordinated according to the type. for mud mask, it's grey tube with picture of charcoal and black sugar at front. there's a bit of description in english, french and spanish and ingredients list in english. i think it only has plastic sealing on the outer body but there's no foil sealing on the inner opening of the tube. luckily, none is spilled during travel time.

the product: the mask is dark grey creamy mask. it's easier to spread out around my face unlike the usual clay mask. it will dried up and gets hard after 5 minutes or so. the mask will gets a bit lighter as it gets dried up. when i compare it with other mask, i find out that this one is more cooling than the other mask.

i have to say i thought mud mask is the same as clay mask, but i was wrong. if you have normal to dry skin and want to try clay mask, it's better to use mud mask as it's not as drying as clay mask. but if you have oily skin and have actives blemishes frequently, you can use mud mask or clay mask according to your preference. but i would say that clay mask works better in sucking out impurities rather than mud mask. price point, you all know that freeman is cheap as hell, so if you're on tight budget, definitely grab this one.
