i just realized lately, that aside from uniqlo, i've been buying my clothes mostly online now. and mostly local brands. well i guess it's a good thing. since the pandemic started, a lot of business are suffering, including local ones. so buying from your locals means supporting them and probably a lot of worker as well. aside from maven, there's another brand that i bought clothes from several times. however, this brand is a bit hit and miss for me.
i started noticing this brand when they had their collaboration with VA makeup artist. back then, i was too late, and most of their collections were sold out. they didn't restock as often, so i didn't buy anything. next they had collaboration with malvava, another makeup artist. i also didn't buy anything because i don't like their designs at that time. somehow i feel it's not for me. however, their color palette were pretty standard, black, white, nude and pinkish which are totally safe for me. i was tempted to buy a piece from this collection, but i held it a bit.

i was glad i held a bit since their next collection was better. i bought a dress from that collection. if only i bought the blazer and short as well.. too bad it was sold out. and when it was restocked, the color that i wanted was sold out within minutes as well. oh well.. since then, i've been keeping my eyes on their upcoming launch. if there were items that i like, i would buy. since then, i've bought a set from them and three dresses. so let's see the pro and cons about this brand.
what i like:
- ever since i started noticing them, not once i've seen they are repeating a design. their designs are always evolving. it might look similar, but not totally the same. their designs are quite various as well. they have basic like simple dresses, shirts and sets (even homewear set) but they also have more playful items like slip dress, camisole, and crop top as well. they also play with a lot of fabric and patterns. they used pleats faster than maven when it's still on trend. and they also use checkered pattern when people were crazy about "emily in paris". and not forgetting they released homewear collection (that doesn't look too homewear) when the pandemic just started. i have to say their timing is quite spot on.
- continuing about design, their pieces are easy to mix and match as well. even though you're not buying it in set, you can still use it easily with other items. even their set can be used across collection. now i just wish i could buy their blazer set again. oh well..
- all size sizing as well. for dresses, i have no problem with their sizing. i usually have problem in shoulder area with all size dresses, but their sizing is okay for me. even the bust is okay. their dress length is proper as well. though they might have shorter length dress for petite lately, but their usual dresses are knee-length. however, for their pants, they have bigger size than maven. i bought their size not long before i started to exercise more rigorously, so it was just a tad bigger than my waist. but i've been losing weights since then and the pants were much bigger now. i haven't bought any other pants from them, so i can't say that their pants are always big. they put elastic on the waist, but the elastic is quite loose as well, so i probably need to alter the pants.
- their color palette are pretty neutral. like i said, earlier in their collection, they have white, black, brown, nude and sometimes red or pink. nothing too bright. later they have army, purplish, grey blue and other color as well, but again, nothing too bright. everything is considered a safe color. i guess it's a good thing since most ladies want to use just basic color, especially for work piece.

what i don't like:
- their fabric. their price range is about the same when maven had their collection with christina brennan. until now, their price range is increasing slightly, but not as drastically as maven's. however, with maven, it's understandable since they're using heavy fabric. but for amygo, their fabric is thinner. the first dress that i bought from them is grey. and it was thinner than i expected. even their set was flimsy, but considering that it's not that see through, i would say that their fabris is really comfortable to wear. but then their minimalist dress is quite thin. i was looking for a simple white dress, and i have to say i can't use it without wearing an outer to cover until my butt because it's see through. they also pleated their own pleats fabric, and it was a bit weird. it's thick alright, but the pleats are bigger than usual, so again, it's a bit hit and miss with the fabric.
- their designs are good, can be used for office or daily. but it has minor flaws in them. for the trench dress that i bought the first time, it was supposed to be a dress and can be used as an outer. since it was a dual purpose, i get that they put the first button way down than usual. it can be solved by putting another button on the collar to hide your bust area when you're looking down. but they didn't plan well for the bottom part. even though the dress is overlapping at front when you're standing up, when you are sitting down, the flap is open because the last button is around the your stomach. i have to put my bag on my lap to keep the flap from exposing my thigh the whole time. so it's not very mom-friendly. i have to put another button almost to my thigh so it won't expose my thigh. that goes with the set. the top is supposed to be an outer/top. as outer, of course it doesn't have problem, but as top, it only has three buttons, and the last button is around the belly button. so when i put my arm up high, i can expose my stomach and waist since it also has slit on the side. the pants were a bite weird as well since the zipper is on the back and not the front as usual. i think putting the zipper on the side would be more comfortable, but i might be wrong. anyway.. i haven't bought anything since then, so i wouldn't know whether or not they've improved. all i can say that put really a close look on the design especially if you are a mom with toddler to chase. dresses might look pretty, but you might expose a body part if you're not careful.
i have to say, compared to maven, their designs are developing better as time goes by. they go with the trend on time but still there's a hint of basic in their products so it can be used over the time. mostly their designs are good for work too, considering they have blazer, pants, shirts and their dresses are decent in length as well. so i guess there's always something to choose from. judging by the design, it can be used from twenties upward. but mostly for 20-30s. you can buy their products from their website and shopee, but on launch day, they only put it on the website. so far it's easier to buy their products, and the web war is not as fierce as maven's. but i might be wrong since they might gain a lot of fans lately. check them out yourself if you're curious.
