biore uv aqua rich watery gel

as usual, japan trip means sunscreen hoarding. and since biore loves to reformulate their sunscreens, it gives me a reason to buy the new version to try the new formula. anyway, this year i bought like 4 or 5 of their sunscreens, aside from the mist, and i've tried three, so let's try the gel for now. the last formulation, not so many people like the formula, so let's see about this one.

this is the translated description from their website: impressively light even after reapplying or double-layering! a water UV product. prevents uneven application on a microscopic level. can also be used for layering under makeup. provides a smooth finish for foundation as well. prevents dark spots and freckles caused by sunburn. ultra-waterproof (water resistance tested in water for 80 minutes). can be washed off with soap. for face and body. SPF 50+/PA ++++. doesn't leave white residue and won't feel sticky. formulated with hyaluronic acid, royal jelly extract and BG (moisturizing ingredients).
the packaging
on the left you can see the remnant of the plastic sealing that i've half-ripped before taking the picture
the packaging: it comes with the usual cardboard backing that contains the description at the back in japanese. they only stick the bottle to the backing and you can rip it off easily. they secure the bottle with plastic sealing. the sunscreen itself comes in blue plastic bottle and the color makes a gradation to white toward the bottom. the cap is white plastic screw cap and you can see the spout to dispense the sunscreen. for the gel type, the bottle is upright, while the essence is upside down. if you wonder what's the difference with the old packaging, they get rid of the italic text "aqua rich" across the body. the sunscreen comes in 70 ml which lately i find out that it's not much. i basically finish this one in a month!
the bottle
the scent: all biore sunscreen are scented and honestly i don't have problem with it because the scent is quite subtle for me, but i learn that it isn't the case with everyone, so yeah, be careful if you're sensitive to fragrance.
description at the back
the product: well.. i honestly don't know why they name it 'gel' when in fact the essence one is a bit thicker than the gel one. the gel one has more like lotion consistency, which is more runny, thus not suitable to be called 'gel' in my opinion, but it is what it is. anyway, even though this one is runnier, but when i spread it around i feel this one is richer than the essence. it feels slightly heavier thus i'm a bit worried when i try it since it's getting hotter here.

the result: this one takes more than a minute to blend in. immediately after spreading it around, it gives white cast but it vanishes after it's completely absorbed. anyway, i don't quite like how i have to rub it to get rid of the white cast. as for the protection, it works well. i manage to survive my bali trip without getting burnt. however, compared to the essence one, this one feels a bit heavier and richer.
left: how it looks like on my hand
right: it gives a slight glow
i think this one is more suitable for normal to dry skin or for those who live in colder places. as for me, i can still manage but i can see i start to glow earlier than usual. if i use glowy base makeup, it makes me look like a light bulb in an hour. if i don't let it rest for quite sometime before applying makeup, it even messed up my base and made it look cakey. easy to say that compared to the essence, i like the essence better than the gel. clearly won't repurchase this one. but if you're curious, this is still affordable so it won't blow your wallet.
