i had my birthday just a little bit after the pandemic started in my country and the school were off a few days before my birthday. just a few days before the public announcement was made to put school on hold and no public gathering including church, my husband ran an errand to the shopping mall. he asked me if i wanted to buy something. i asked him if i could get an early birthday present and he thought oh well, the pandemic would affect all of us, so if this present could make me a little bit sane, then he would buy it. so i asked for foreo ufo. he bought me foreo luna last year and i love it until today, so i guess it's time to make another investment. at that time, foreo bear was just popping out, but i think i have my jade roller, so i think it would be similar, so i picked foreo ufo.

the packaging: it comes in a transparent acrylic box so you can see the UFO from the outside. under the separator, you will get USB cable charger, a mask sample, and a dock to put your UFO. there are three colors to choose from, and mine is the pearl pink one to match my foreo luna. at first there's a plastic shield to cover both the front and the plate at the back. you might ask, what is the different with the mini one? the only difference is, the mini one doesn't have cryo-therapy mode. so no cooling option.

a bit description at the back |
the product: the size of UFO is probably the size of my palm. since the outer part is made of silicone, it's easy to grab and hold the device. however, since it's circle in shape, it's a bit tricky to move it around your nose area, especially if you have crooked nose like me, or super high pointy nose. other than that, it's easy to move it around my face. at the back side, there's a plastic ring to hold the mask securely. lifted the ring so you can put the mask, then secure the ring back. turn on your phone and use the foreo apps to start your treatment. the LED ring is on the outer part of the warming/cooling plate. while in the center, there's the warming or cooling plate that is covered with the mask. the charging hole is on the bottom. don't worry, all foreo devices are waterproof. some people doubt the LED ring since it's only a thin ring, it might not cover a lot of surface. while the opponent device (skin inc), has wider ring so you can see the LED lights clearly and it was pretty concentrated compared to foreo. my only grudge is the usage time is not as long as foreo luna. with luna, you can charge it once for about 5-6 months even though with daily use. but with foreo, it's probably only lasts for about a month with every other day usage. and even faster if you use cooling and warming sensation repeatedly. one session in UFO only lasts about 90 seconds, so i usually use it for 3 rounds to really maximize the result. just like the luna, it will automatically change mode and then give you sign when it's done.

the apps: the downside (or probably the good side?) of UFO is you have to operate it using an apps. you have to put your phone near the device and then press the power button for a couple seconds before the apps recognizing your device. you have to register it if you're using for the first time. in the default mode, there's only two masks stored there. the make my day (for morning use) and call it a night (for night time use). if you press one of those option, you will only need to scan the mask's barcode (on the back of the mask sachet) before it will automatically start the session. if you're using other mask, you have to scan it first, then it will be saved in the apps. however, as i was changing my phone platform (from ios to android), the apps was not transferable. i had to register again and then though my device were still registered, the other mask that i've used (the youth junkie) was not registered. i had to use it again and save it again.
this is how the apps looks like the dial around the shows you how many masks that you've used and automatically saved |
if you're not using foreo's mask, you have to make sure that the mask is juicy so the foreo can glide easily. then you can press the setting button on the apps and adjust the LED light you want to use, the strength of the vibration, and then the heat or cold setting. here's the perk. the newer UFO 2, is supposed to have more LED option (like skin inc one) with additional orange, cyan and i forget what else. but looking at the website, it seems gone! i've used this long enough, so initially, before i heard that there would be UFO 2, the apps has three LED lights option in the setting mode, then there's a button to drag and adjust the brightness of the LED light that you choose. i can also choose two lights or even three to combine the lights. like green and blue will give you cyan. red and green will give you orange. by the time there was news about UFO 2, the apps suddenly changed. the three options were still there, but i couldn't combine two or more lights. now, after i changed my phone, the apps were back to beginning. i can choose combination lights. but the heat and cold setting will come off after about 1-2 minutes. in the past, it would stay on for as long as i use my device.
the dock |
so, do you have to use UFO masks? no. you can use it with regular sheet mask. just use your sheet mask as usual then turn UFO on and glide it over your sheet mask for as long as you like. just remember, the longer you use the UFO, the faster the battery would run out. can you use UFO without any masks? yes but if you use thick serum and super slick serum. however, i've tried this once, with heat mode, and it was too hot for my skin. for the cooling mode, it was cold as ice. so probably better use it with mask.
the ring with LED on it's going to change to red, blue, and green (there's orange purple and cyan too) |
the result: i've tried using three LED modes. the red one is supposed to be anti-aging. obviously the night mask is using the red light, and i don't see any visible result. but, considering that until now i don't see any wrinkle whatsoever, it might help in boosting the effect of other skincare and mask that i've used. that goes with the green light. the green one is supposed to be for brightening. if you have acne scars or dark spots, it's supposed to lighten them. i do think it helps in combination with vitamin c serum or other brightening serum to prevent any dark spots. but so far, i don't see any changes in my dark spots. as for acne scars, with routine usage, it does help fading acne scar (in combination with other skincare products). as for the blue light, it's for acne. this is the only light that i can see the result instantly. whenever i have cystic acne, it would take weeks for me to get rid of it. i was doubtful at first, but i tried using it three days in a row. using blue light and concentrated on my acne. and after three days, the acne would start to shrink in size. and then after a week, it would be flat.
all of these pictures were taken a day apart you can see that from day 2 to day 4 the acne got popped and then day 5-6 it's healed |
notice my dark spots at the top of the picture. it's slightly fading and then the acne scar at the bottom of my cheek was almost gone at day 6 |
here you can also see how my acne healed in 5 days |
if you're asking me, is it worth the money? yes of course. however, i cannot compare it to other device since i haven't tried anything else. do you need the device? it's really up to you. if you're using sheet mask often, or you like masking but don't like to spend lots of time using regular sheet mask, then you should get this device. i personally like the cooling mode as i think it help reduces puffiness of my face. but if you don't like masking, and only need lifting, then you should try foreo bear or other device that offers microcurrent setting. as for me, using foreo ufo and continuing with jade roller is enough to give lifting effect and also reducing my puffiness. this is totally another good investment that i've made this year.
