votre peau retinol serum

i never win giveaway, mainly because i'm not into it, especially if you have to tag someone else. it's a bit annoying, but i get why people have to tag other people. anyway, i join this giveaway because i don't have to tag anyone, so long story short, i won. i thought i would just get the retinol serum. but turned out i got the whole package, from the peptide serum, the retinol serum and the night cream. oh, by the way, the giveaway that i won was from @kaepratiwi in collaboration with votre peau, one of local brands that i've been eyeing on but i didn't know which one to start, so winning this giveaway is a good chance for me to try the brand. i've tried the peptide serum and i like it, so i hope i do like this retinol serum as well. i give my skin a break from retinol because before trying this serum, i used drunk elephant retinol cream and it was quite potent, so let's see how it does on my skin.

this is the description from their website in bahasa: retinol 1% membantu meregenerasi kulit, mengurangi kerutan, menghaluskan dan mengurangi sumbatan komedo. baik untuk dipergunakan sebagai perawatan anti penuaan, hiperpigmentasi dan kulit berjerawat. diperkaya dengan ceramide, formula ini menghaluskan kulit, mengurangi kekeringan kulit, dan menghasilkan kulit yang lembut dan lembap.
translation in english: retinol 1% helps regenerate your skin, reduces wrinkles, smoothes and reduces blackhead. it's recommended for anti aging treatment, hyperpigmentation and acne skin. enriched with ceramide, this formula smoothes skin, reduces skin dryness and gives you smooth and moisturized skin.

the packaging: since i won this in giveaway, i only got the bottle. i don't know if they sell it in a box or anything. anyway, the bottle is similar to the peptide one. a small glass bottle with dropper to dispense the product. the only difference is the label and the bottle color. the peptide label is green and the bottle is transparent while the retinol label is purple and the bottle is dark brown. a bit description at the back of the bottle. there's also the ingredients list printed on the bottle, but it's a bit weird since i can't find it in their website. so i'll write it down here. it comes 10 ml size, but they have bigger size as well now.
ingredients: aqua, propylene glycol, hydroxyethylcellulose, retinyl palmitate, ceramide, dimethicones, crosspolymer, sodium benzoate, tetrasodium EDTA, phenoxyethanol, sodium metabisulfite, lavendula angustifolia (lavender) oil.

the scent: as stated in the ingredients list, at the end of it there's a lavender oil. it's natural fragrance that the brand used. and i sniff the serum and i can pick a bit of the scent but it's really subtle so i don't think you'd get annoyed by it. but if you are sensitive to essential oil, then you might want to skip it.
description at the back
the product: it's a cloudy white gel-type serum that's a bit viscous but spreadable. it absorbs well into my skin. since it has added ceramide, i can feel a bit moisture slip after spreading it on my face. it gives tacky feeling when i pat it. it does layer well over and under other skincare product that i use.

the result: i was confused about this serum. they call it retinol serum and even write "retinol 1%" in their description. but in the ingredients list, it only has "retinyl palmitate". this is quite different as retinol is quite potent but retinyl palmitate is mild. if this serum only has retinyl palmitate, then obviously i don't suffer dryness like when i tested drunk elephant retinol because it's mild. but if this contains retinol, then probably the added ceramide might contribute in preventing skin dryness. as for acne, just like DE retinol cream, it doesn't have any effect in preventing acne. i still have several breakouts sometimes, but it helps speeding up the recovery process and i don't suffer acne scars like i used to. and other area when i don't have acne, i can see that it's more smooth just when i use DE retinol.

i have to say this one is quite mild, so if you're still beginning your journey in retinoid products, this might be a good product to start. it also has several added moisturizing ingredients like ceramide and butylene glycol. it has smaller bottle so it's perfect to try first before committing to bigger bottle. as for the price, the smaller bottle is quite affordable, while the bigger one is quite expensive but still comparable to other serum. as for me, i want to try other local brand retinol serum. i reckon there are still three other local brands that have retinol serum in their products line, and i hope i can try them all. so until then, i won't make any conclusion on which to repurchase.
